Club of 2022 – Deeside Thistle Cycling Club

Deeside Thistle Cycling Club (DTCC) is the largest cycling club in Scotland. The Youth and Junior (Y&J) Section support 150 cyclists (aged 6 – 18) providing a safe, fun and social environment for coached sessions on: enduro, downhill and cross country, as well as road, cyclocross, track, and grass track, recognised as leading practitioners in Scotland & UK – awarded Mountain Bike Club of the year Sept 2022.

Coaches volunteer at Club, Region and National level – 19 British Cycling qualified Coaches and Leaders. Y&J have 50% female participation – at the Scottish Crit Champs – Female U12, U14 & U16 winners. Strong cohort of female riders who have trained as coaches, inspiring young girls to join the club. The Junior coaches (aged 16-18) have delivered, in partnership with Active Schools, free of charge cycling sessions in 7 locations with 35 sessions involving more than 350 children from Braemar to Northfield to Westhill. Delivered within local communities, removing the need to travel to participate, allowing children to learn with their friends and gain new skills.
